At the end of December, as usual, it's time to settle accounts and recap the year that's coming to an end.
This 2020 has been incomparable to previous years in many ways, and it has undoubtedly been dominated by the global epidemic of the Covid-19 virus. Many would say it was a lost year...
However, the fact that there were other topics besides "corona" is evident from the global growth of internet users and activities on the web, as well as the symbolic analytics of PlanPlus magazine, where some of the articles this year have recorded record-breaking visits.
Therefore, let's take a look at what was most read in PlanPlus magazine during the year 2020.
Important! Locations of traffic cameras on the streets of Belgrade (MAP)
Already at the end of 2019, a large number of street cameras started to be installed in Belgrade, which today cover almost all major intersections and roads in the city, or as they say colloquially – they are everywhere. Officially, the cameras are supposed to provide a higher level of traffic safety in Belgrade's streets in general, but the number of cameras is what causes debates among citizens. Our team has mapped over 600 locations, or over 1400 cameras in the capital city. However, Belgrade is not "alone" in this project, as cameras have also started to appear this year in Čačak and Kragujevac.
Covid clinics in Belgrade - locations, phone numbers, and working hours!
When the first case of coronavirus in Serbia was officially recorded in March this year, we witnessed different models of behavior by officials - from mocking the virus and its consequences to curfews and forced home confinement for a few months. With the seriousness of the situation and the increasing number of infected individuals, certain medical clinics in each Belgrade municipality gained the status of Covid clinics, where the examination and testing for coronavirus were the only possible services. PlanPlus was among the first to mark them and provide all the necessary contact information to those who needed it.
Avala and Kosmaj in one day | Where to go on a trip?!
With nice weather and getting used to the Covid situation which somehow became a part of all of us, we started moving around and slowly "venturing" away from home. However, since the borders remained closed, we had no choice but to venture out to the surroundings of Belgrade and the interior of Serbia. That's when we started a series of firsthand travel articles about popular excursion sites and destinations that many haven't had enough interest, opportunity, or time to visit so far. In addition to the excursion to Avala and Kosmaj, which became an absolute hit, there was also a great interest in the travelogues from southern Banat, Srem, Branicevo i and the Sokobanja region.
Corridor 11 - "Miloš Veliki" on the PlanPlus Map
One of the articles that "survived" from 2019 but were extremely popular this year as well is the one dedicated to the opening of the section of Corridor 11, specifically the segment between Obrenovac and Ljig. The reason probably lies in the fact that PlanPlus, as a local digital map, was among the first to map and display the newly built highway section, with routing options along the same route. When this section was connected to the remaining segment Obrenovac - Surčin at the end of last year, the "Miloš Veliki" highway gained its full meaning.
Belgrade Center Railway Station - How to Get to "Prokop" Easiest?!
Another "survivor," but this time from 2018, is the article explaining the easiest way to get to the "Prokop" railway station or how to reach different parts of the city by using public transportation lines from there. After the closure of the Main Railway Station and the redirection of trains to the Belgrade Center station, a large number of passengers, especially those coming to Belgrade, found themselves faced with a question - how to reach the desired destination after getting off the train?! As this article continues to be highly visited even after two and a half years, it is clear that the question is still relevant.
One of the guest articles in PlanPlus magazine, which has extremely high popularity, is a travel-historical story about Belgrade and its numerous hills and slopes. Due to the development and intensive urbanization of Belgrade over the past decades, most people don't pay attention to how hilly and undulating the capital of Serbia (at least its "old" part) actually is. This text describes the hills, hillocks, and slopes of Belgrade, some of which you may have never even heard of.
Street Name Changes in Belgrade: Over 2,500 New Addresses on the PlanPlus Map!
A large state project of updating the Address Register for the entire territory of Serbia began last year, continued this year, and will undoubtedly continue next year. Namely, in 2018, the RGZ (Republic Geodetic Authority) determined that about 3 million inhabitants of Serbia do not have adequate and precise home addresses, after which a major action of organizing the address register was undertaken. The most significant changes, understandably, occurred in the territory of the City of Belgrade, where over 2,500 streets received new street signs, i.e., changed their names and house numbers. Among others, streets in Belgrade were named after Vlada Divljan, Marinko Madžgalj, Elvis Presley, Bata Živojinović, and others.
How to Earn Money in Isolation - 10 Online Professions for Uninterrupted Work from Home
Another entry from the "Covid articles" series was created during the strict quarantine measures in the first wave of the epidemic. The implemented measures to prevent the spread of the virus had already started affecting a large number of small and medium-sized businesses, raising a very logical question - which business or profession can "survive" the newly emerged situation?! However, in the era of freelancing, this question will remain relevant even after the global pandemic ends because these are de facto future professions. That's probably why this text has been among the most read since its creation.
Craft Breweries in Belgrade: 10 "Temples" for Beer Lovers
One of those "for the soul" articles naturally emerged on a sunny and warm summer day, in a state of great thirst. Jokes aside, the expansion of craft breweries in Belgrade during the past years served as motivation to delve a bit deeper into this topic. As some of the most popular places for going out and socializing, craft breweries are an interesting subject for all beer enthusiasts. Since this text is one of the most read, we can conclude that those who love beer - also love PlanPlus. That's why we have mapped them all.
Museums in Belgrade: 52 Museums for Every Weekend of the Year!
An incredible coincidence or simply the right moment to create this guide through Belgrade's museums happened spontaneously, at the moment of realization that there are indeed 52 museums in Belgrade, whose visitation could be accomplished throughout the entire year, every weekend of the week. It is understood that this is challenging to achieve in practice, but in theory, you must admit it sounds extremely interesting. Although being online for just over a month, this text quickly made its way to the respectable tenth place in terms of readership. We hope that the number of museums in Belgrade will increase, even if it takes us "several years" to visit them all.
