One seemingly unreal natural phenomenon is located in the small village of Pačir in Vojvodina, about 20 kilometers away from Bačka Topola.
It is a thermal lake whose water takes on an unreal pink color when exposed to sunlight. Not only that, the salinity of this water is equivalent to that of the Adriatic Sea, and the concentration of various minerals is so high that this lake has unintentionally become not only a spa resort but also one of the biggest tourist attractions in northern Bačka.
Granted, human intervention played a part in this natural phenomenon, as it was in 2008 when drilling of wells began on the outskirts of the village, revealing to the public the existence of this unique and rare natural phenomenon in Serbia.
The saline healing water of Pačir Spa comes from a depth of about 1,400 meters and can be considered the remnants of the former Pannonian Sea. Although the cause of the lake's unusual color has not been conclusively determined, it is believed that due to the specific composition of minerals in the water (such as iodine, bromine, lithium, and others), when exposed to sunlight, it acquires a color that is almost impossible to find in nature.
Depending on the time of day and the angle at which sunlight falls, the lake water sometimes takes on purple hues, while on cloudy and gloomy days, it hardly differs from the color of an "ordinary" lake.
The Pink Lake is relatively small in size, covering an area of about 1,000 square meters, with a maximum depth of just over 1.5 meters.
Recognizing the healing properties of the warm mineral water, as well as the visual effect it has on visitors, the local authorities soon after the discovery renovated the entire area around the lake and established Pačir Spa – the youngest spa in Serbia.
The water temperature in the lake is around 30 degrees, making it pleasant for swimming even outside the hottest summer months. The beneficial effects of the pinkish water are particularly noticeable in dermatological and rheumatic conditions. However, this lake attracts not only those with health issues but also healthy individuals who are curious and eager for entertainment, relaxation, and unusual phenomena, as well as unique photo opportunities.
Such phenomena exist only in a few places worldwide. The most famous pink lakes are found in arid and desert areas of Australia, Bolivia, Mexico, and Senegal, as well as in Spain and the small village of Pačir. While these mentioned destinations are thousands of kilometers away, Pačir Spa and its pink lake are less than a two-hour drive from Belgrade, about an hour from Novi Sad, and only about 30 kilometers from Subotica.
