In Montenegro, the first highway has been opened: Podgorica - Kolašin in less than half an hour

Symbolically, on the Statehood Day of Montenegro, July 13, 2022, the section of the first highway in this country was opened.

The section between Kolasin and Podgorica, spanning approximately 41 kilometers, is part of the Corridor 11 project or the E-763 highway, connecting Belgrade with the Southern Adriatic. This corridor, whose complete construction is expected in the coming years, is designed as a branch of the Trans-European Transport Network, linking Northern Europe with the Adriatic Sea, specifically Bar.

Historically known for its difficult accessibility due to rugged mountainous terrain and lack of road infrastructure, the country is now enriched with a modern highway that will reduce travel time from Kolasin to Podgorica by about an hour.

More significant than the speed is the fact that with the opening of this highway, the "infamous" section of the well-known main road through the Moraca Canyon can now be avoided. Therefore, the safety level of all traffic participants should be significantly higher than it is now. However, the true benefit of Montenegro's first highway will only be felt in the coming years when this section connects to the Miloš Veliki highway, or the branch of Corridor 11 in Serbia.

When viewed from north to south, the newly opened section starts in Matasevo near Kolasin and ends in Smokovac, near Podgorica. Along the 41-kilometer route, 20 bridges and 16 tunnels have been built, with an elevation difference of nearly 1000 meters between the two endpoints.

Since the speed limit on this section is 100 km/h and the highway has three lanes, it is estimated that it will take only half an hour to travel by car from Kolasin to Podgorica (or vice versa).

According to announcements, the toll fee for this section is expected to be free for the first seven days, and after that, it will be charged at a maximum price of 3.5 euros.
