National Museum in Arandjelovac is located near Bukovicka Banja Park and is dedicated to preserving the spiritual and material cultural heritage of Arandjelovac and Topola. It is one of the most significant tourist attractions in the city under Bukulja.
The building housing the museum was purpose-built for the needs of the local museum, and the traditional folk architecture of Sumadija is reflected in the architecture of this cultural monument.
It was established in 1981, and numerous paleontological, archaeological, historical, and ethnological exhibits, as well as historical and artistic objects, trace the development of this part of Serbia.
The permanent museum exhibition "Millennia" records the traces of the city and its surroundings' past and follows its development from the Stone Age to the 19th century. Fossil remains of animals from Risovaca Cave are chronologically displayed. Visitors can see remains of mammoths, wolves, horses, giant deer, white cave lions, woolly rhinoceroses, and the remains of cave bear skeletons that attract special attention. Flint and bone tools used by Neanderthals who inhabited Risovaca 50,000 years ago are also preserved in the archaeological collection.
Ceramic vessels, sacrificial altars, figurines, and amulets reminiscent of the Vinca culture are exhibited, as well as objects from the Bronze Age and the Roman period. Marble lion sculpture, jewelry, tools, buckles, and remains of a Roman building are particularly noteworthy.
Fragments of frescoes from a monumental church dating back to the early 14th century testify to the medieval period. Recent history is represented by decorations, military equipment, weapons, and personal belongings of soldiers who fought in the First and Second World Wars.
The ethnographic exhibition consists of antique dishes, traditional costumes, hearth, and objects belonging to old crafts typical of this part of Serbia, such as shoemaking, tailoring, weaving, and blacksmithing tools.
The period of recent history is presented through weapons, military equipment, decorations, recalling the Serbian uprisings against Turkish rule. Additionally, some exhibits relate to the First and Second World Wars, including the soldiers from the Salonika Front and the Austro-Hungarian army. Among the exhibited items, the original rifle of Tanasko Rajic stands out, and in the ethnographic section, visitors can see the hearth, antique dishes, traditional costumes, as well as objects used by shepherds and farmers.
The exhibition dedicated to the recent history showcases the development of the city and Bukovicka Banja. A camera from 1931, a horse-drawn carriage permit, photographs of old Arandjelovac, benches, and famous personalities of this region complete the museum collection.
Visitors also have access to the Retrospective Exhibition of Ceramics. The collection of artistic ceramics at the National Museum in Arandjelovac has over 600 items and represents one of the richest collections in Europe.
