Potholes Day | Funny Holidays

International Pothole Day

Potholes on the roads are definitely one of the most unpleasant occurrences in traffic, which are quite common on our streets during this time of year.

Potholes are a normal phenomenon and exist as long as the roads themselves. They are mostly caused by water and ice, extreme heat, road overcrowding, as well as inadequate maintenance.

Cleverly hidden under puddles, and sometimes barely noticeable at a certain angle, potholes not only make driving uncomfortable but can also have much more serious consequences.

Every time we suddenly "bump" into a pothole while driving, in many cases, an expletive automatically escapes our mouths, and often empathy towards the vehicle arises, especially if it is our own or privately owned.

And if we accidentally "splash" a pedestrian on the sidewalk due to a pothole filled with water, they might, in the old Serbian custom, "reward" us with a few insults directed at our mothers or our driving abilities and those who issued us the license. Potholes on the roads truly become a hated occurrence while driving.

When all of this is combined with possible mechanical damage to the car, which then requires repairs, towing, and unplanned expenses, there is no doubt that potholes can cause serious headaches for drivers.

How to Mark Pothole Day?

Unfortunately, an ordinary person cannot do much about it because road repairs and marking dangerous sections are not the responsibility of drivers and individuals but rather the local municipal companies in charge of road maintenance.

  • The most practical way for an individual to take action on this issue would be to report potholes to the appropriate municipal services.
  • One not entirely permissible but, it must be admitted, creative and effective way to draw attention to the problem of potholes was found by an American who used yellow spray paint to mark all the craters in his city with "naughty" motifs, prompting the authorities to repair the road damages as soon as possible.

However, what is certain is certain. To avoid headaches caused by potholes or unauthorized actions, we advise careful driving, adjusting your speed to the current road conditions, and avoiding puddles.
