Futog Cabbage Festival | Tourist Calendar of Serbia

Futog Cabbage Festival is an agricultural, gastronomic, and cultural event that takes place in early November every year in Futog - a settlement located about a 10-minute drive from Novi Sad, for over two decades.

Once a village, and now a town with nearly 20,000 inhabitants, Futog is a place with a rich and authentic history. Situated on the Danube, at the southern gate of Bačka, this place has been known for centuries as a meeting point for traders and a fair for various goods. Today, the nearby large city has taken over this role, but Futog remains particularly recognizable for one event - the Cabbage Festival.

Namely, Futog cabbage is already widely known as an indigenous variety of this vegetable, which, thanks to the excellent soil and abundance of water in Futog's fields, has superior quality and certain characteristics that no other cabbage variety possesses (thin leaves, light green color, airy structure, slight flattening). For this reason, this variety has protected geographical origin and is rightly considered a symbol of Futog.

With the aim of promoting and preserving the tradition of producing this unique cabbage, the "Futoški kupus" association was founded in Futog over two decades ago, and an event dedicated to the local brand was designed. The event involves the participation of the Futog Cultural Center, as well as the city of Novi Sad.

Over time, the Futog Cabbage Festival has become one of the most festive events of the year for the people of Futog. During the two-day festival, thousands of visitors - exhibitors, buyers, competitors for the heaviest or largest cabbage head, hosts who prepare spectacular cabbage rolls and other dishes from sweet and sour cabbage, and finally, guests who want to taste all those specialties and confirm that the story about Futog cabbage is not a myth - gather in this place.

As usual, this event is accompanied by diverse cultural, artistic, and entertainment programs in which children from local schools and kindergartens participate. There are also various exhibitions that present local traditions and customs, as well as panels and professional gatherings dedicated to improving production and protecting the brand.

The 23rd edition of the Futog Cabbage Festival is planned for November 5th and 6th this year, and more details and information about participation can be found in local media.
