Drina Regatta is one of the most popular tourist and recreational events in Serbia. It has been held annually since 1994, during the third week of July and usually lasts for five days, from Wednesday to Sunday.
The five-day event includes a series of cultural, recreational, and entertainment activities such as theater performances, exhibitions, music concerts, egzibicionih jumps from the bridge, culinary competitions, and fairs of traditional products - rakija, honey, and homemade crafts.
However, the central event and symbol of the Drina Regatta is the traditional descent down the Drina River, from the Perućac Lake dam to Rogačica, covering a distance of about thirty kilometers. This descent does not have a competitive character, but represents a kind of carnival on the water - dozens and hundreds of river vessels with thousands of guests on them, with music, good mood, and food prepared on the water, sailing leisurely towards the finish, enjoying a unique experience and socializing, beautiful and picturesque landscapes that can only be experienced from the river.
The descent is of a recreational and entertainment nature, it can be interrupted at any time, and it can be extended all the way to Loznica. The descent down the Drina, as the central event, always takes place on Saturdays and is attended by tens of thousands of visitors from all over our country, and there are more and more foreign guests.
The descent is officially opened every year by some of the famous personalities or by state officials. With Dragačevo Trumpet Festival in Guča, Belgrade Beer Fest, and Novi Sad Exit Festival, this is probably the largest summer event in Serbia.
The first regatta was held in July 1994 in memory of ancient raftsmen and this carnival on the water, with a large number of additional contents, represents one of the largest events on the water in this part of Europe.
During all the days of the event, a fair of honey, brandy, souvenirs, and homemade crafts is held in the city center. In the first days, concerts are held, and on Thursdays in Perućac, there is a competition in preparing fish stew. On Fridays, jumps from the bridge into the Drina are organized, where jumpers from the entire Balkans compete.
During the five-day event, if you have not made a reservation on time, accommodation capacities in Bajina Bašta will mostly be filled. Therefore, the organizers formed a camp on the bank of the Drina River, not far from the city center, where showers, toilets, parking lots, and all necessary conditions for accommodating visitors are provided.
The 28th Drina Regatta will be held from July 20th to 24th this year. More information and a detailed program for all days of the event can be found on the official website of the Drina Regatta.
