Dental Tourism or Why the Smile is More Beautiful in Serbia?

And not only more beautiful and dazzling, but a smile in Serbia is also de facto cheaper. The reason lies in the fact that dental tourism in the world, including in our country, is becoming increasingly popular.

What is dental tourism?

Namely, traveling to another country for dental treatments or implant procedures has been a common practice and a sort of trend in developed countries around the world for years. The astronomical prices of dental services have prompted tourists from Western countries to flock to foreign countries in search of more affordable dental treatments, especially when it comes to complex or surgical oral procedures. As the world becomes more interconnected and the market more competitive, the growth rate of dental tourism in Europe is expanding, with an annual growth rate of up to 15%.

Advantages of dental treatment in Serbia

The trend of global growth in dental tourism has not bypassed Serbia, quite the contrary. On the dental map of the world, Serbia is considered one of the most popular destinations on the planet. The reason lies in the fact that the quality of dental services is at the highest possible level, and their cost, in accordance with the standard of living in Serbia, is significantly lower than in the United States, Western European countries, or, for example, Scandinavia.

Naturally, most dental tourists come to the capital city (around 80%), while the second most visited city for this branch of tourism is Niš. These are cities that have airports and can be reached relatively quickly from any part of the world.

Of course, among the tourists, there is a prevalence of Serbs from the diaspora who take the opportunity to visit their friends and family. However, in recent years, there has been a noticeable and significant increase in the number of foreigners, among whom Italians, Germans, Austrians, and Swiss people are leading the way. For example, an average Swiss citizen pays nearly ten times more for a visit to the dentist in their own country compared to what they would pay in Serbia.

Dental Tourism in Serbia

Although such trips are primarily motivated by the need for dental services, tourist visits to cities and their surroundings are an integral part of them. The majority of dental tourists, either before or after visiting their chosen dentist, take the opportunity to explore the top attractions of Belgrade, Niš, Novi Sad, and other cities, and spend at least a few more days in Serbia.

Foreigners often point out that it is even financially more advantageous to spend a few days in Serbia, pay for dental services and a return ticket, rather than dealing with dental problems in their own country. Of course, the opportunity to visit places they haven't seen before also has its value, which is not necessarily measured in money.

In addition to all of the above, one of the main advantages that ranks Serbia among the top dental destinations is the transparency of dental clinic prices, which often provide upfront cost estimates for treatments or other dental procedures, without hidden costs.

Treatment for Dental Tourists

Dental clinics in Belgrade that focus on dental tourism approach foreign patients with great professionalism and care, providing services of the highest quality, using the best materials and state-of-the-art equipment, all with the aim of delivering excellent service and leaving a positive impression on foreign patients.

Rarely do clinics adjust their schedules to accommodate tourists' plans by scheduling appointments in a timely manner, ensuring that patients rarely have to wait for their examinations.

To accommodate foreign patients, many dental clinics have also adapted their websites to the most popular world languages, sending a message that patients from all over the world are welcome in Serbia.

Potential Risks of Dental Tourism

When it comes to health, it is understandable that patients value being in safe hands more than money when seeking assistance outside their own country. Traveling abroad for dental services carries certain risks, especially regarding the materials used in procedures and the experience of the chosen dentist. Patients can obtain all the necessary information related to healthcare protocols before scheduling.

However, today's standards in the field of dental tourism are quite high, and therefore there should be no fear that something unforeseen will happen. With adequate health insurance for patients and a system to assist dissatisfied patients, as well as post-treatment monitoring, there should be no cause for concern in that regard. This is evidenced by the fact that many dental clinics in the country have a higher number of foreign patients than domestic ones.

As the saying goes, good word travels far...
