Children's theaters are undoubtedly significant social institutions that have a special place and important role in children's upbringing and maturation. They are primarily cultural institutions whose main role is to provide children with insight into real-life values, setting a clear boundary between good and evil, and vividly explaining to children what it means to be worthy, good, fair, honest... Therefore, visiting youth and children's theaters should undoubtedly become a habit and regular practice for parents and their little ones.
Although more and more events are being organized in Belgrade every year, most of which are intended for the youngest ones, children's plays remain popular. In fact, our capital city can boast a fairly rich scene for children. In the following text, read about the children's theaters in Belgrade that kids simply adore.
Children's Theater Puž
Children's Theater Puž is the most famous and one of the beloved children's theaters in Belgrade, hosted by the legendary actor for children, Branko Milićević, better known as Branko Kockica. The repertoire of Theater Puž is very interesting, which is why many children consider it their favorite. Performances are held on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, both in the morning and afternoon. The repertoire is designed in a way that parents can easily fit their personal and business obligations with a trip to the theater with their children, with a little willingness and good organization. Performances are held on Fridays at 6 PM and on Saturdays and Sundays at 12 PM and 5 PM.
Children's Theater Boško Buha
Children's Theater Boško Buha has a long tradition, and its story began with Branislav Nušić's desire to establish "Privileged Theater for Children and Youth Roda." From its establishment to this day, when it comes to Theater Boško Buha, the repertoire for children is diverse and consists of fairy tales and classics for children. "Boško Buha" is the first and only children's theater that has been awarded at Sterijino Pozorje.
Children's Theater Čarapa
Children's Theater Čarapa was founded in 1996. What sets this children's theater apart from the others is the fact that you can attend its performances without paying with money for a ticket. Namely, Čarapa Theater is part of a unique project in Europe that focuses on educating both children and adults about recycling and environmental protection. The project called "Limenkica-ulaznica" (Tin Can Ticket) is well-known because the ticket to the shows doesn't have to be paid for with money but with five empty, used beverage cans. That's why this theater is also known as the "Recycling Theater."
Little Theater Duško Radović
Little Theater Duško Radović is one of the most recognized and well-known children's theaters in Serbia. The target group is, of course, children, but also those who don't want the child within them to grow up. The performances of Little Theater Duško Radović correspond with reality in a special way, tailored to children, addressing topics that are relevant in contemporary society. In that regard, the theater's performances greatly contribute to connecting children from different social strata and groups.
Pinokio Puppet Theater
Pinokio Puppet Theater was established as a traveling theater in 1972. After six years of existence, Pinokio Theater gained the status of a permanent theater in Belgrade and is now one of the most famous children's theaters in the city.
The repertoire of "Pinokio" consists mainly of performances based on classic fairy tales, legends, myths, and epic poetry, but also on contemporary dramatic texts. The reason why children adore going to Pinokio Puppet Theater is the fact that various puppetry techniques are used in combination with shadow theater and acting.
Children's Cultural Center Belgrade
Children's Cultural Center is part of the Cultural Center of Belgrade, which offers creative, interactive, and modern programs, many of which are intended for children. The repertoire of Children's Cultural Center is quite extensive and diverse, keeping up with social trends and phenomena and undoubtedly aligned with the interests of children and youth. The Children's Cultural Center focuses on exploring and discovering the potential of children in the field of culture, directing them towards acquiring the need for artistic knowledge. The Cultural Center of Belgrade hosts the largest children's event in the country and the region, "Joy of Europe."
