Bojčin Cultural Summer | Tourist Calendar of Serbia

Bojčin Cultural Summer is a traditional event that has been taking place on the outskirts of the beautiful Bojčin Forest, in the village of Progar near Surčin, every summer for over a decade.

Bojčin Forest was declared a protected natural monument in 1965. It consists mainly of oak, linden, hornbeam, and maple trees, under whose canopies more than a hundred species of mushrooms grow, with 15 of them being listed as protected species. Bojčin Forest is also home to various bird species as well as mammals such as hares and roe deer, and the presence of free-roaming Mangalitsa pigs adds a special charm to this forest as they roam and feed in their natural habitat.

On the edge of this forest, which is also located in the immediate vicinity of the Sava River, a summer stage was opened in 2009. Various cultural events are organized here on weekends throughout the summer (from June to August).

The summer stage hosts performances for both children and adults, with ensembles from numerous theaters in Belgrade and Serbia. Every year, various cultural and artistic societies, amateur singers, and children's choirs also perform here. Understandably, the concerts of popular pop and rock bands attract the most attention. So far, bands like Neverne Bebe, Crvena Jabuka, Van Gogh, and popular singers like Sergej Ćetković, Dženan Lončarević, and others have performed at the Bojčin Cultural Summer. Although the summer stage has around 500 seats, these concerts often attract several thousand visitors.

The rich cultural and artistic program is complemented by the attractive location where this event takes place. Despite the fact that concerts mostly start in the evening hours, many visitors choose to spend the entire weekend in Progar, enjoying nature, walking through the forest, or along the banks of the Sava River.

A jogging trail measuring 1,750 meters has been built through the forest. At the very beginning of this trail, you will find the Bojčin Equestrian Club, which offers visitors the opportunity to go horseback riding.

In the idyllic ambiance of the dense oak forest, the traditional cuisine restaurants serve specialties made from the highly esteemed Mangalitsa pig. One such restaurant and a symbol of this region is Bojčin Koleba. Furthermore, the local term "koleba" refers to a circular-shaped structure made of twigs and clay, covered with straw and thatch. Kolebas were widely used in the Srem region in the past as accommodation for shepherds.

The Bojčin Forest area also has historical significance as it was the site of numerous battles during the First and Second World Wars. In the forest, there is a stone monument dedicated to the First Srem Partisan Detachment.

Bojčin Cultural Summer is an ideal opportunity for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts to visit an oasis located about 30 kilometers away from the center of Belgrade.
