- The law established three categories of citizens who have the right to free legal aid and a lawyer. The third group of beneficiaries of free legal aid consists of vulnerable groups, including children, the disabled, victims of domestic violence, organized crime, asylum seekers, refugees and others.
- How is the right to free legal aid exercised?
- The request for the provision of free legal aid is submitted in the municipality, and on that occasion evidence of receiving social assistance, total assets and other evidence is also submitted. The lawyer decides whether there is a right to obtain free legal aid, then the applicant is referred to a lawyer from whom free legal aid is obtained or to the service of the local self-government. The deadline for a decision is eight days, while in urgent cases the deadline is up to three days.
